East traveled to Buena Regional High School last Thursday April 29th to compete in the South Jersey Invitational. In the freshmen 1600m, Joey Andalora made the race exciting and went for the win, but was outkicked by two other runners. Joey took 3rd place in a time of 4:52. Also setting a new PR was Michael Wang, running 4:58 to take 5th place. In the varsity 1600m, Damon Glatz ran a time of 4:39 in the fast heat. In the 800m, sprinter Marcus Phillips tied his PR, running a time of 2:04.
In the last race of the night, under the lights, Steve Omari took 6th place in the 3200m with a time of 9:55. Also running new PRs were Chris Dinh, who ran 9:59 for 8th place, and Scott Zhao, running 10:12 for 13th place. Congrats to Steve Omari and Chris Dinh for breaking 10 minutes for the first time and placing them as the 13th and 14th fastest 3200s in school history.
On Saturday, East traveled back to Buena to compete in the relay portion of the meet. In the freshmen DMR, Joey Andalora led off the 1200m in a time of 3:43, handing off in the lead in a tactical race. Kyle Bryant ran a 56 for the 400m leg, followed by a 2:21 800m leg by Mike Bruce and an anchor leg of 5:00 for 1600m by Michael Wang. The team took second place in the race with a time of 12:06.
In the Junior Varsity DMR, Andrew Berger led off with a strong 3:26 leg. Isaah Campbell ran a 56 400m leg, followed by Ben Helfand running 2:12 for 800m, and Josh Elkan anchoring the relay in 4:55 for 1600m. East also took second place in the race in a time of 11:31.
In the Varisty DMR, Chris Dinh led off by running a 3:19 for 1200m. Brad Krell took the team into first place with his 52 400m leg and was followed by DJ Rodriguez running 2:15 for 800m. Damon Glatz anchored the leg with a time of 4:41 to take second place, running a total time of 11:12.
