Weeks 9 & 10: Stepping up the Investment

Hello boys and girls; gather round, and you shall hear, the last weekly post, before the school year. The second to last week of the summer kicked off with an arousing threshold workout on Monday; as usual, team alpha consisted of Mike “Rupp” Minion, Mike “Eaton” Bruce, and Ben “Farah” Dillon, who completed a rather inconsistent but beneficent workout. While Jeff “Solinsky” Braun and Sean “Gatlin” Taylor followed with relative inconsistency, Chris “Symmonds” Arnold performed a solid workout. As this was the first day out of hibernation for Coach’s notebook, many kids were sent home; this essentially removed the entire freshman class from the conversation for 2 weeks, which is great, because now I don’t have to waste time writing about them. On Tuesday morning, Nold, Bruce and John “Hall” Warkala did some repetitive trail running, while Sean and Jeff  headed towards Eastern; Minion and Wang did some other run at a lesser distance, which they would make up for later in the day. On Wednesday, a day characterized by the return of Jared “Mazano” Dashevsky, everyone was very safe on the roads, staying well within the shoulder, and everyone consequently finished their runs before dark. On Thursday, a group of men, Jeff and Alli “Felix” Smith traveled up Holmdel Park; while Alli completed a shorter workout, the rest of the boys went off together, which, by mile 2, turned out to be just Bruce and Minion running together. Other standout performers of the day were Jeff, who displayed the extent of his training completed throughout the summer, and Sean. In a very great night, Kayla was found, liver was eaten, Cans were jammed, and wrong turns were made. On Friday, only several people showed up to practice, as the top group which consisted of Nold, JFwarKal, and Bruce. Henceforth, due to his supreme effort to immediately join practice and desire to excel, Jeff Braun is runner of the week; his training throughout the entire summer was more than evident, and he has now placed himself in contention for a varsity position.

The final week of summer began with (Surprise!) thresholds; overall, this practice was one of the most successful, with exceptions, of the entire summer; team alpha(Bruce, Minion, and Ben), ran its fastest threshold yet,  Sean and Jeff dropped their average yet again, and a flustered Mike “Bolt” Wang was reported that he too, had a more promising threshold than that of previous weeks. On Tuesday, Jeff and Bruce discovered the Frisbee golf courses which faintly appeared in the basilisk’s shadow in the Chamber of Secrets, whilst Sean did a slightly longer run past Eastern. On Wednesday, many people came to practice, as Jared and Minion broke off towards Eastern for the longest distance, followed by Bruce who ran through the Beagle Club, and finally Jeff, Christian, and Sean, who simply could not hold in their excitement for entering the Chamber once more. On Thursday, team Alpha added a hopefully-permanent member to its long run group as Mike Wang stayed on with Bruce, Minion and Ben for 11 miles. Other notable performances were of Sean and Jeff, who seem to be attached at the hip by this point. On Friday, several boys showed up, including Dor, Ben Dillon, Sean, John, Jeff(Late), Chris and Bruce; they all completed runs on the trails, except for Ben Dillon and Chris, who decided to tear up the roads in the area. But most importantly, Mr. Michael Wang is runner of the week, which is a rare accomplishment for someone who was not even cleared for the entire week; Mike has rejuvenated his hopes and dreams for the season, and has declared this by force through his runs and overall attitude. GREAT job Mike, keep it up. Remember boys, Cherokee in 1 WEEK from tomorrow; it’s almost time. Keep Working and Do Your Job.
