Minion Leads Team Rodriguez to Victory

Cross Country Football League–Day One

Team DJ vs. Team Zach

Welp, it was rainy, it was cold, it was muddy, but it didn't stop us. CCFL game one was played on Wednesday in the sloppy mess of a day. Team Iannarelli jumped out to the early lead, with QB Zachary (LongBall) Iannarelli dropped 3 BEAUTIFUL deep balls into the arms of WR's Christian Mele, Ben Helfand, and Robbie Cooper. Team DJ QB Adam Green was picked off on 3 consecutive drives by Robbie Cooper, and things were terrible for DJ's guys. As the sun dropped, the ball got muddied up, and players clothing got wet and cold, the passing game slowed incredibly. Iannarelli struggled to hit the open man and was picked off, and Green and Rodriguez started hitting wideouts Mike Minion and Matt Burt on short dump-offs, and rallied to a 3-2 comeback. Iannarelli than showed his masterful touch on a deep ball to Russell Beatty threw the hands of the freshman Dan Helfand. Welcome to the big leagues, kid. 4-2 Zach's squad. The sun was no longer out, and turnover after turnover occured. Team DJ than hit a few short dump-offs and drove for another TD or two. All of a sudden, it's 5-5. Next touchdown wins. Crunch time. Green drives, gets to the 10-yd. line, Zucker on the blitz, PICKED OFF BY ZACH. Let's go! C'mon! All the momentum in the world. 4th and 1 on the 50, incomplete :(. DJ's ball. Turnover after turnover kept the game going into the dark wintery night. After a few short balls to Mike Minion, Jack Fiedler came up with a BIG gain on a 4th down play, leaving the ball at the ten yd line. DJ than hit Dan Helfand in the middle of the endzone, game over, DJ wins 7-6 :(
