SJ Open

Today, the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled on a summer-like day to Delsea for the South Jersey Open for what was to be a very succesful day for the team.

In the Freshman race, Dan Helfand got 6th place and ran a time of 11:20 for the freshman 2 mile course. Chris Mele had a very notable performance too, coming in 11th and running 11:32. Well done boys.

The JV race was a very impressive one to watch, not too often do you see a team get first-fifth. Leading the pack was Mike Bruce with a 17:55, followed by Tyler Russ, Russell Beatty, Mike Minion, and Adam Rosenthal. Jack Fiedler also had a breakout race, running a 18:39. Rounding out the medals was Matt Burt who was so close to breaking 19 with a 19:03 and getting 23rd.

Now to Varsity, who really bounced back after a very dissapointing Divisional race last week. Leading the way was Zachary Iannarelli coming in 5th and running a 16:43. DJ Rodriguez came 12th. Making a HUGE improvement was sophmore Ben Dillon coming in 18th, running a 17:08. 3 seconds later, Ricky Zhao finished strong in 21st place despite falling in the first mile. Making his Varsity debut, Mike Wang was a couple seconds behind Ricky, coming in 23rd and running a 17:16. Ben Helfand and Jared Dashevsky finished in 60th and 63rd. The Varsity squad came 6 points short to winning the race to Kingsway High School, but they defeated Lenape by 11 points which was a huge accomplishment.

The season is moving by quicker then we think, it is time for everyone to really thing about what they want to accomplish and how to make it happen. We all have the Camden County Championships on Saturday at GCC.

As always, Keep on runnin'.
