Hello everyone. Before you read this post, I must warn you that it will be a VERY long post because yesterday, EVERYONE on the team raced very well, and I believe everyone pr'ed for GCC "C" Course.
The Varsity race was first for the boys team. As Coach Cieslik stated, it is one of the more competitive races in New Jersey, and that it was. It was a very fast field, and right from the gates the pace was quick. Zach and DJ both had first mile splits sub 5 minutes, and everyone else on the team was sub 5:10. Senior Zach Iannarelli used that first mile to snatch a outstanding PR of 16:28, and earning first team all conference honors by coming in 6th place. Just 6 days earlier, he ran a 16:58 on the same course. Well done. Next for East was senior DJ Rodriguez who earned second team all conference honors by coming 11th place with a time of 16:50. Senior Russell Beatty had another huge race, running a 17:17 for 20th place. That is 44 seconds faster then what he ran 6 days ago, and there are no signs of him slowing down, keep it up Russ! Senior Tyler Russ also finished strong with a time of 17:29 for 31st, and right on his tail was Junior Mike Minion running a 17:31. Sophomore Jared Dashevsky had a 23 second "C" course PR, running a 17:37 for 34th. Senior Ben Helfand also ran a "C" course PR of 17:42 and took 37th. Before the race, DJ said in a little team huddle that "Everyone has something to prove today," and as shown, everyone proved themselves in this race. Great job.
On to the JV race, which the freshman ran in due to all of the coaches deciding not to have a frosh race, and some of our freshman showed themselves racing with older runners. Every runner in this race for East had a "C" course PR, therefore, it is only right if every running in the race is mentioned. Leading the way was senior Adam Rosenthal in 6th place with a time of 18:18. In 14th, with a time of 18:29 was FRESHMAN Dan Helfand. Next was Junior Chris Arnold, who had a strong race with a time of 18:50 after battling knee injuries. Both going sub 19 for the first time, Junior Matt Burt and Freshman Chris Mele ran 18:53 and 18:54. Yes that is two freshmen under 19 on a very challenging "C" course. Juniors Jack Fiedler and Joey Andalora both ran 19:02. Senior Kevin (Walter!) Walder had a outstanding race, running a 19:06, and just 6 days ago, he ran a 20:00 on the same course. Next for East was Sophomore Aaron Zucker, who ran a outstanding race, smashing 21 minutes with a time of 20:22. Sophomore Bobby Zografos had a nice race with a 21:04. Right behind him, Senior Adam Green ran 21:05 despite being out for a while with an injury. Then came Freshman Lokesh Shah and Junior Arjun Nanavaty right next to each other running 22:21 and 22:22. Both with huge improvements. Junior Aaron Tinkelman, had a stellar race running a 22:27. After missing more then half of the season injured, Freshman Dor Tillenger had a breakout race, running a 24:37. Freshman Zach Goldstein had the race of his life, running about 6 minutes faster then he did earlier in the season with a time of 25:24.
Again, good job to EVERYONE who raced. For most of us, Wednesday will be our final race when we travel to Pennypacker Park for the Haddonfield Sub-varsity race. Lets use this positive momentum to end the season well!
As always, Keep on runnin'.
