Yooooooooo. On Friday the team took a trip (not a field trip) to Tom's River for the Sectional Meet. Alex Reber led CHE off well with a win over the rest of the section in the 400 with a 49.81. There is are ten entire seconds between what Alex ran and what I hope to run one day--39.81.
Next, Tony "The Valedictorian" Chen, complete unknown on the running scene, seeded as the 21st runner in the slow heat, ran 8 laps by himself for the W in 1600 in 4:42. It was truly a spectacle. At one point about 3 meters in it looked as though Marcy V. of Tom's River East would take it, but Tony kicked him down within the last 1500. Also, freshman Ben Dillon, initially thought to have broken 5 minutes, ran 5:00.18. Poor guy. In the other heat, Josh Elkan ran a 4:46. He beat someone's boyfriend though.
In the 55 hurdles, Isaiah Campbell and Taj Frazier scored with 5th and 6th place finishes. In the girls 1600, Taylor Festa ran her last race at the Bubble ever, with a 6:13. In the 800, Wang ran 2:10, and Marcus Phillips finished 2nd in the section with a 2:00.32.
Coming back in the 55, Reber finished 4th in the 55. Fast guy.
In the boys 3200, Zach Gatsby pikabooed his way to a 1st place finish. However the official cut off the seeds with his card. Bummer. He ran 10:14. Ricky Zhao ran a 10:30 for a solid PR. In the fast heat, Steve Omari also ran 10:14.
In the girls high jump, Kelsey E. won, jumping a 5'6". :)
Finally, our 4x400 team won, running a 3:27, with Brad Krell anchoring. Hey Brad.
Tomorrow, we're going up to The Armory for the Varsity Classic. I'd like to end this post with a quote. I think it was Winston Churchill who said, "Would you like to explain why im in the varsity classic 16? My 1600s are quite classic but not even close to varsity." Keep on runnin'
