Here are some more updates on the winter track season so far.
On January 12th, various members of East traveled to Toms River to compete in the SJ Championships. In the 3200m, Mike Liachowitz set an indoor PR, running 10:52 with Russell Beatty running 11:00 to also PR. In the 1600, both Frank Zhang and Ricky Zhao set new PRs, running 5:04 and 5:13 respectively. Finally, in the 800m run, Marcus Phillips ran a 2:10 and Mike Wang ran a 2:22, both PRing (notice a trend). Congrats to all who raced on all the new PRs.
The second of two winter Olympic Conference Meets was held on January 23rd at the Bubble. To start off the day, Marcus Phillips, Brad Krell, Ben Helfand, and Andrew Berger ran times of 2:11, 2:11, 2:18, and 2:14 respectively in the 4x800m relay to place second in a time of 8:56. In the 1600m run, Josh Elkan led the team by running a 4:55 to set a new indoor PR. Josh was followed by Mike Wang in 5:10 and Robbie Cooper in 5:27. In the 800, Andrew Berger, running his second race of the day, ran a 2:12, with Jack Fiedler just edging out Kevin Walder, both timed at 2:33. In the 3200m, Ricky Zhao won his heat by running 11:05, while Steve Omari, in his first 3200m race, ran an impressive time of 10:04 to take 3rd place.
The SJTCA Meet, which was originally schedule in December, was reschedule and held the following day, January 24th. In the 1600m run, Tony Chen took 6th place by running a PR of 4:45. Scott Zhao and Mike Minion also ran 4:59 and 5:18 respectively. In the 800m run, Adam Green ran 2:34 with Matt Burt running a 2:39. DJ Rodriguez led off the DMR by running a 3:34, with Frank Zhang running a 2:15 and Zach Ianarelli running 4:55 in a close race to take 3rd overall with a time of 11:45.
