Winter Track, Up to Now

It's been a long time since the last update. So here goes.

On December 18th, several members of the East Track team competed at the first Olympic Conference Meet at Toms River. In the DMR, Damon Glatz led off with a 3:37 (1200m), with Tony Chen running 2:14 (800m) and Steve Omari anchoring in 4:46 (1600m). The team ran 11:32 and took second place overall. In the 4x800, DJ Rodriguez led off, running 2:23, followed by Frank Zhang in 2:23 as well. Russell Beatty next ran 2:35, with Zach Ianarelli running 2:22, to finish with a time of 9:44.

The South Jersey Large Schools Invitational was held on January 6th at Toms River. Scott Zhao ran the lead off leg of the DMR, running 3:31 for 1200m. Josh Elkan ran a 2:13 (800m) and Chris Dinh ran 4:49 (1600m) to run a total time of 11:31. In the 4x800, Marcus Philips started off with a 2:16, followed by Damon Glatz in 2:12, Tony Chen in 2:10, and Steve Omari in 2:15. Steve Omari came back later to anchor the SMR in a time of 2:12.

Last Thursday January 14th, due to the great weather, East attended an outdoor meet at Haddonfield. In the 1600, Ben Helfand led the team with a PR of 5:08. Also running well were Robbie Cooper in 5:21 and Kevin Walder in 5:31. In the 800, Marcus Phillips ran a 2:10, followed by Andrew Berger's 2:12.

Yesterday, several members of the team traveled to Toms River to compete in the New Jersey Group 4 State Relays. In the DMR, Damon Glatz, Brad Krell, Tony Chen, and Chris Dinh ran splits of 3:34, 54, 2:08, and 4:44 respectively for a total time of 11:21. In the 4x800, Marcus Phillips led off with a 2:10, followed by a 2:10 from Tony Chen, 2:16 from Damon Glatz, and 2:08 by Steve Omari to run a time of 8:46. In the SMR, Josh Elkan anchored a close race, running a 2:13.
