While Mike and Brandon were away...(Part 2)

Once again, this is Andrew Baeckstrom not Brandon. If you don't understand then read the intro to the previous post. Now, here's some more updates.

Thursday: Day 3
We had to do a two-a-day. It wasn't as bad as it sounds though. In the morning, we went out for about a 5 mile run. In a major suprise, Cieslik offered me the oppurtunity to select the run. I picked the Centennial run. A nice run down by my neighborhood, past the Voorhees Main Street, a loop in a park, and up Cooper to school. Alex Goldman for reasons unkown was not in attendance. Kunal was and so was his attitude problem. He got all mad at me during the run about me not telling him when to turn or something and there was a little scuffle. No injuries. Overall, a good morning and here is the run courtesy of gmaps.

Thursday night, Goldman showed up but couldnt provide a reason for his absence that morning. Kunal showed up. We did 30 mins of running on grass. Jeffrey, Gao, and I started a barefoot group and we did loops over at the nearby Richterman Sports fields. The others did some stuff at Decou Sports fields and Richterman and Kunal was by himself. Jeffrey was having a good time barefoot and went out of his way to run in every puddle and mudpile he could find. When, we got back we did striders and plyometrics. Kunal did these jogging type things for striders and Cieslik remarked to him,"Kunal, now those are striders. We should get you up in front of the team and show everyone." Kunal walked away muttering curses at Coach. When I tried to call him back for plyometrics he just waved me off and left. A good day.

Friday: Day 4
We did a workout called spokes of the wheel. The basic idea is this. You run for about 2 miles, then you do about 3.5 miles on hills. Then another 2 on a regular run. Its called spokes of the wheel because if you look at the picture it looks like a really demented wheel with a center point and running out to three outer points and the run are the spokes. Anyway, it went quite well as halfway through Gao and I switched into Alaina And Jeffrey's group and finished quite strongly. I left immediately afterwards because of work. Kunal turned in another abysmal job as he barely jogged the whole workout falling way out of his group which was Goldman, Kunal and one of our stronger sophmores.

Saturday: Day 5
The last official practice without the majoriy of the guys team. We did a tempo run. It was a 16-20 min hard run not a race or threshold after a 2mile warmup. It was followed by 4x200s and a 2 mile cool down. The first group was Jeff Deppa and he finished a little less than a minute ahead of Gao and myslef who both finished within a few seconds of one another. Kunal was also in Gao and mine's group but after he pushed the opening half mile hard he fell way off. He decided to skip the 4 by 200s as well. He needs to change his attitude now because we dont appreciate it and he doesnt look like hes having any fun out there. Below is the tempo run course.

Thanks for checking out the latest news on the East Distance program and come back next week for all the news at the madness that went down at the XC Camp.
