On Saturday, February 23rd, 2 of East's runners traveled to the biggest indoor stage in the state: the Meet of Champions. After advancing to states, both Dan Helfand (1600m) and Ben Dillon (3200m) moved on again to compete at MOCs. Over the past 2 meets, Dan's performances have placed him in the middle of the pack of East's living legends; as a sophomore, Dan's performances have also thrown him into the ranks of the top upperclassmen of the state; in 2 years, he'll be alone at the top. In a similiarly victorious form, Ben Dillon has developed one of the best and most infectious attitudes on the team, changing his previous questionable habits into paragons of excellence.
At MOCs, both runners beat their seed placements, as Ben Dillon dropped a 9:40 in the 3200m dash while Dan Helfand spotted a 4:29 in the 1600. The next Monday, however, both runners traveled to the Eastern Statesn Championship at the Armory along with Mike Minion; Minion and Ben qaulified for the 2-mile run while Dan qualified for the 1-mile run. As does occur every so often as the result of the mating of previous consistent performances and moderate fatigue, all runners posted slower times than their previous marks (with conversion); Dan posted a 4:38 (4:36 conv.), Ben a 9:55 (9:50 conv.), and Minion a 10:19 (10:14 conv.) Thus ends winter track for the distance team as spring track lies at the day break of that very next Friday, this Friday, tomorrow. To all, in all, do well this season.
Keep on Running
