East Vs. Lenape

Yesterday, the East track team traveled over to Lenape High School. The meet went by slowly due to the large size of each school and the inclusion of the girls' track teams. Also, the occassional incidents of rain added to the delay. Finally, after the weather cleared up and the field events concluded, the long-awaited track events began. Junior David Berger opened the show with a personal record of 4:33 in the 1600m race, beating Lenape's top distance runner and grabbing the 1st place spot. Junior Nate Burt followed behind in 3rd with an impressive personal record of 4:45.

In the 800m, the East distance team swept the track, nabbing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Junior Kevin Lanni rabbited (is that even a word?) the first 200m of the race out in a fast 26 seconds. From there, Berger took the lead, finishing in an easy 2:07, with Max Cohler (08') following behind in 2nd with a time of 2:08. Burt finished 3rd with a respectable time of 2:11.

In the 3200m, all seemed well, until the last 200m of the race, where one of Lenape's top runners finished 1st in an all-out sprint against senior Dan Fuentes. They both finished in 10:27. John Arnold (09') followed behind in 3rd with a time of 10:37.

Despite a strong effort by the distance team, and a lackluster effort by others, the Lenape track team wrestled out a win of 74-66. However, East's distance squad was able to crush the Lenape distance team, by winning 19 out of a possible 27 points. The next race will be this Saturday for the Camden Gloucester Co. Relays at Pennsauken. If this meet doesn't get rained out like always, it will be at 10:00AM. This meet lasts all day so pack accordingly. And as always, keep running
