It was a bright and sunny day, with a high temperature of 76 degrees fahrenheit. There was also a slightly cool breeze, blowing at approximately 6 mph. This is not Mike Levin posting about another big 1600m PR, instead our tale today is of freshman Dave Berger, who set a 15 second PR in the 1600! As the race started, Dave sat as teammate Max Cohler took it out in a blazing 66. Lenape's Jeff Scarborough led the second lap to come around the 800 in 2:22. As Dave saw his teammates slowly dropping back, and the Lenape runner slowly gaining ground in the lead, Dave was confronted with a difficult decision. He sat on the shoulder of the Lenape runner for a slow lap to come through the 1200 in 3:39. Lenape Jeff took off at the 1200m mark, seemingly leaving Dave in the dust. However, almost as if by a stroke of magic, Dave was able to catch him with 200m to go and pass him with 150m to go. It was a close, hard fought battle in the end, with the Lenape runner just edging Dave at the line. Dave nonetheless finished with a HUGE PR in 4:43. That means he ran a 64 last lap. And yes, that is the fastest 1600 time by an East runner this season. Maybe someday all of you will be like "Famous Dave". OK, Yes that was really a bad nickname, but I'm keeping with levin's writing style.
We cannot forget the other amazing PR's in the 1600 today. Despite Mike Drake's downright obnoxious screams of "SCORE SOME POINTS ******!!!!", Danny Fuentes ran an unbelieveable PR of 4:50, possibly a full minute improvement from the Lenape meet last year. Joel Burt ran a nice 4:54 in his first real 1600m race ever, and Max Cohler just missed breaking 5 minutes again with a time of 5:01. Middle Distance star Craig Fishbein also had a PR of 5:04.
In the 800, the results were less impressive but Wilfred Omari still managed a PR of 2:12, with Brandon Cohen behind him in 2:18.
The 3200 again saw another great performance with Mike Adler taking first in 10:23. Yes, Mike Adler, who just a year ago ran over 12 minutes against Washington Township. The race was truly a work of art. The only runner close to him had already run the 1600, so Mike ran the first mile in 5:05, leaving the already tired runner in the dust. I'll also just mention that mike certainely left it all on the track... literally.
In my 3 years as a runner for East, it was certainely one of the more impressive showings I have seen. Job well done.

what race is better, Frosh Finale or the Distance meet at Haddenfeild?
B/c Malone wants all the freshmen in the Finale meet.........
frosh finale i think u get noticed more. haddonfield is probably a more fun race
frosh finale is a one time event. and youll most likely win. however, haddonfield has the better atmosphere. but youll be able to do that next year. but whatever choice you make, you cant go wrong. hope that helped
darn. craig posted right before me
Definately Haddonfield. Even as a freshman, you get noticed by other distance coaches, and will help East regain a lot of respect. At the freshman meet, nobody really knows or cares about distance.
all of the frosh my year ran both. at that point in the season it doesnt matter. i think it was after sectionals last year but i could be wrong. if i had to choose i would definately choose haddonfield its a great meet.
last year both were before sectionals. maybe even a day apart i think. so similar situation to this year. all the frosh last year i believe ran both
i like the new colors on the site, brightens this up more :)
