This past Saturday 24? members of the Cherry Hill East Cross Country Team competed in the 10th Annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic at Walt Disney World, in Florida. The weather was very warm leading up to the race, and some members of the team had difficulty keeping hydrated. The girls race went out fast, with Theresa Cattuna uncharacteristically trailing the lead pack. This situation did not continue, though, and by the end of the second mile, Theresa had secured a second place finish. She also broke 19 minutes for 5K for the first time with a final time of 18:57. Overall the girls finished in 3rd place as a team, their highest place in an invitational meet all season. In the boys race, the team was missing usual varsity members Brian Deppa and David Berger, who competed in the SJ Open on the same day (Dave Berger won the freshman race with a time of 11:14 for 2 miles). The Boys varsity team at Disney consisted of Mike Levim, Joel Burt, Danny Fuentes, Jeff Deppa, Alex Goldman, Michael Adler, and Pete Tzeng. The boys team finished in 8th place out of 30 teams. Quite an accomplishment. Danny Fuentes ran a PR and was the third place finisher for East, while Mike ran 17:48 and Joel ran 18:04 for 20th and 24th places overall, respectively. In the boys JV race, the team performed underpar due to injury and hydration issues, with my co-editor Brandon Cohen passing out 2 miles into the race. Here are Joel's Pictures (Brandons got deleted). Here are Ashley's Pictures. Also, if you have more pictures email them to eastdistance@gmail.com . Below is a link to the race results.
