This past Monday night, the team gathered for its first team dinner of the season. Almost 45 members of the girls and guys XC teams met a Buca di Bepo, for a nice (nicer than pizza in the park) dinner. Dinner was good, with large platters of Italian food being brought from the kitchen faster than we could eat. The food just kept coming, and the more that came, it seems, the less we ate. When all was said and done, many people ended up bringing home food from the restaurant because we had so much left. When we saw the bill, we were a little taken aback, to say the least. While Brandon had supposedly asked for enough food to feed approximately 45 people, it turns out the restaurant gave us enough for around 60. Because of this little oversight, the bill ended up being $922.14, which required everyone to pay $22 to cover the bill. As it happens, some thoughtless souls came to dinner with little or no money, and 6 people ended up paying almost $40 each to cover the large "hole" after everyone else had paid. Overall, dinner was good, and it got us psyched for the race the next day.
Tuesday. Race day. Tuesday brought an exciting new day for many members of the team. Many team members, including the freshman, Theresa, Alaina, and myself, had never run an official "tri-meet" in highschool. The day also provided the teams with their first oppurtunity to fully put their dilligent summer training to the test. While I went into the meet with some over-achieving goals, many other teammates actually achieved all of their goals for the race. Theresa Cattuna and Alaina Chodoff came in first and second in the girls race, while Brian Deppa, Michael Adler, and Mike Levin came in 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively in the boys race. Overall, both the boys and girls teams won their races yesterday, defeating higher ranked teams. Congratulations to Danny Fuentes, who set a PR of almost 7 minutes. Overall, we at eastdistance.blogspot.com would like to congratulate both East XC teams for their first wins of the season. Here's to many more. -Keep On Running
