I have to say that it was a good year. I logged over 1100 miles from the beginning of summer training to today. While that sounds impressive, it could and should have been more. I wasn't really pleased with the times I ran this year, but that's ok, beacuse the team as a whole greatly improved. Think about how far we've come since the end of cross country. We had 8 people go under 5:20 in the mile, 4 people go under 2:15 in the 800, and in the 3200.... well, we had people volunteer to run the 3200 (which is an accomplishment in itself). Actually though we had 2 girls around 11:20, which is more than I can say for Mike Adler. Just kidding. We had 8 athletes compete at sectionals, 2 at states, and 1 will compete tommorow in the meet of champions. Even without a lack of senior leadership (cough brad cough) we still rallied behing our captain, Jarrett (maybe a little prematurely, as it seems now as if Jarrett will not be captain). We had a freshman beat Mike Levin's seemingly unbeatable freshman 1600 time of 4:19 (actually it was 5:19).
The accomplishments go on and on, but the real message here is that we had a great season. Things are still looking up for us. Just recently THE BOOT came off, Mike Drake may or may not do cross country, and Mr. L has been made an official coach. It's not official yet, but cross country has begun, and it's going to kick ass. Even though I'll miss the first half of the summer while I'm up in Maine hiking on the AT, everyone else will be at practice every morning at 7am (ha ha), ready to go. Because in the words of Frank Wagner... It's on.
